About the Job
Family Centered Services of Alaska is searching for a Special Education Aide to provide support in the Youth Education Support Services (YESS) Elementary and Secondary Programs. The YESS programs provide integrated day treatment (behavioral health) and education services to students referred by the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. Students receive the benefits of low child to staff ratios that allows for behavior alternation to prepare students to return to a public-school setting.
The Special Education Aide is responsible for assisting the Special Education Teacher in providing for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. The Special Education Aide assists in the implementation of classroom programs and will work under the general supervision of the Program Manager and Certified Teachers.
Schedule shift
Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
Role Responsibilities Include:
1. Provide individualized and small group instructions in basic skill content, remedial and GED curriculum, physical education and/or arts and crafts activities and other goals as identified on a student’s Individualized Education Plan
2. Assist as appropriate in administering individualized and group assessment tests
3. Assist Special Education teacher in the evaluation of a student’s transcript of newly admitted students to determine their educational needs.
4. Provide input to the Special Education teacher as to the student Individual Education Plans (IEP) and instructional goals.
5. Become familiar with each student’s Individualized Service/Mental Health Treatment Plan (ISP).
6. Observe student behavior and implement behavior modification plans as written.
7. Motivate, encourage, and assist students to complete identified IEP and ISP goals.
8. Assist in planning and implementing recreational and/or arts and crafts activities.
9. Maintain compliance with state, federal, and local school district laws, regulations, policies, and reporting requirements.
10. Assists in the recording, compiling, and maintaining of special education records.
11. Provides information to parents and teachers relative to Individual Education Plan (IEP) reviews, i.e. 30 day advance notices of annual or three-year reviews.
12. In conjunction with teaching staff, organizes and maintains a uniform record keeping system based on the useful, legal, and archival values of school district records.
13. Prepares or transcribes routine correspondence, memoranda, forms, and records; performs data entry for student records and maintains appropriate back-ups.
14. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
15. Must be able to use standard office equipment, including computer, printer, copy equipment, fax machine, 10-key calculator, and phone system.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or GED required.
2. Experience: Must be competent in the use of computer word processing software; experience with E-mail, and Internet. At least one year’s secretarial experience is preferred.
3. Good knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment, as well as general knowledge of English, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and basic math are required.
4. Good oral and written communication skills are required.
5. Must have ability to interact with others in a courteous and tactful manner, to meet deadlines, to flexibly reprioritize work as needed, and to maintain confidentiality of records and oral information.
This position is a driving position. Applicants will be required to submit a driving record if selected for the position.
All applicants must be at least 21 years of age due to State of AK regulations and must pass a State of AK Background Check.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.20 - $17.19 per hour
