Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Hoag Digital Health is a customer-centric product, design, and engineering organization on a mission to bring together Hoag’s nationally renowned strengths, across multiple medical specialties, within the everyday experience of primary, urgent, preventative care, and well-being services. The Principal leads the engineering team in the fundamental rethinking of the care experience for multiple customer groups with hybrid digital-physical solutions. Leads the design and support of systems such as go-to guides for first-time parents delivering at Hoag, to re-imagining the primary care and annual wellness experience, to continuously improving Hoag’s “digital front doors,” including its websites. The Principal will hire and build, the Digital engineering squad. Collaborating with product and design teams on digital strategy, supporting the architectural/technical stack vision. The Principal is passionate about the customer outcomes and is comfortable within nascent/start-up team environments. Key responsibilities include:
  • Hire, lead, and mentor all roles within the Digital team’s first engineering squad (front-end, back-end, full stack/mobile, data engineers).
  • Collaborate with design and product directors, and their teams, to continuously refine not only the overarching digital strategy, but also day-to-day product decisions that require creative, technical solutions.
  • Partner with existing external engineering partners and plan for work that can be in-housed while also being the gatekeeper for technical stack/architecture vision across our internal and external teams.
  • Own and iterate on the cross-digital portfolio technical stack and architectural vision to enable the team’s pursuit of customer outcomes, with a focus on product velocity and architectural scalability.
  • Be the champion and accountable spokesperson for the code we release to market, including the important impact different technical approaches can make to the resulting user experience.
  • Manage the team and projects effectively, provide strategic input and quickly re-align when needed. deliver products on time and within budget.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10 plus years of experience of software development experience, ideally across both mobile (iOS/Android native, React Native) and web.
  • 2 plus years of engineering management experience.
  • Experience in a fast-growing startup environment.
  • Experience working at the intersection of internal product/design teams and external engineering partners.
  • Experience working within microservices architectural set ups.
  • Familiarity with design tools & agile methodologies.
  • Expert in Swift or Objective-C, iOS development tools (Xcode, Instruments) - focused on how best to integrate, and SaaS & PaaS systems/integrations.
  • Fluent in Python Knowledge of common web services protocol (HTTPS/JSON/REST) and experience with cloud computing (e.g. AWS infrastructure).
  • Technical experience with native iOS development and a strong grasp of computer science fundamentals Strong API design knowledge.
