The SUNY Orange Newburgh Lab School provides care for children from Toddlers into Pre-Kindergarten. We provide high-quality, affordable, and accessible child care to the children of Orange County Community College students, employees, and the community. The Newburgh Lab School also serves as an exemplary teacher training site for students in the Early Childhood Education Department.

Reports to: Lab School Center Liaison and Education Coordinator

Salary Range: 17.00/hour

Education Required: Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or an up-to-date Preschool CDA.

Experience Required: Two years of experience teaching in a preschool/daycare setting preferred.

Preferred Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field. Two years experience as a lead teacher in a toddler room

Description of Position:

The Preschool Room Co-teacher is responsible for the daily planning of activities, assessments, and environment of the Preschool Room in conjunction with the second Co-teacher in the room.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

1. Daily planning of activities based on the principles of child development and in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the center.

2. Maintaining regular records of the children’s progress and development in a timely fashion. The Preschool Room Teacher will develop plans in order to meet the individual needs of the children as well as the needs of the group.

3. Developing and maintaining a cordial working relationship with the parents of the children in the classroom.

4. Scheduling of parent-teacher meetings during the school year.

5. Ensuring that the curriculum is implemented in the classroom in a systematic, timely and developmentally appropriate fashion.

6. Developing and maintaining an appropriate learning environment.

7. Attending all parent/teacher, and staff meetings during the year.

8. Attending all in-service meetings during the year.

9. Meeting and maintaining training requirements each year as mandated by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services relevant to current teaching position.

10. Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.

11. Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, all college employees, and the public.

10. All other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

• New York State Certification
• Ability to manage multiple projects.
• Bilingual Skills.

Working Conditions:

Must be physically able to care for children and move about the classroom freely. Frequent lifting or carrying objects/children up to 50 lbs and infrequent travel between buildings on campus is required for this position.
