Job Duties
This position is part of a collaborative team focused on the development, implementation and coordination of a comprehensive law enforcement training curriculum. Position is responsible for ensuring VA Conservation Police Officers receive training that meets or exceeds DCJS, VALEPC, and NASBLA standards and provides supervision to students who are receiving, and the instructors tasked with delivering Basic and In-service courses. This position’s focus will be toward the Basic Academy training side of the training program and will assist with the development and implementation of In-service and other programs of the Training and Recruiting Section. Will assist the Academy Director and other staff in the recruitment and hiring of conservation police officers.
Minimum Qualifications
=> Considerable knowledge of and experience related to law enforcement, education, training, training methods, public relations and other methods of promoting compliance with laws and regulations.
=> Knowledge of principles and practices applicable to law enforcement personnel, volunteers, programs and equipment.
=> Knowledge of state purchasing, accounting, and budgeting procedures.
=> Working knowledge of supervisory and management procedures, principles and best practices applicable to law enforcement personnel to include performance management, training, coaching, and counseling subordinate staff.
=> Demonstrated ability to coordinate and monitor basic and in-service training sessions.
=> Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
=> Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude, use clear communication, and exercise good judgement in the workplace.
=> High School Diploma or equivalent.
=> Conservation Police Officer with law enforcement certification from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).
=> Valid driver's license.
=> Considerable experience in law enforcement as a Conservation Police Officer.
Preferred Qualifications:
=> Considerable experience as a DCJS general instructor developing and delivering law enforcement In-Service training.
=> Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in criminal justice, police science, public administration, education or a related field.
=> Considerable and progressively more responsible related experience.
(A combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for education.)
