CALIBRE Systems, Inc., an Employee-Owned Management Consulting and Digital Transformation company, is looking for a Plant Propagation Manager. This task will be conducted at Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA. The successful candidate will join JBLM’s Sustainable Range Program Integrated Training Area Management team supporting the sustainable rehabilitation of military lands through education, analysis, construction management, prairie rejuvenation through plant plugging, and more.
Primary duties include plant propagation, greenhouse operations, seed collection from native plants, and growing native plant plugs. Perform land/vegetation surveys using GIS software and hardware to collect, develop, and analyze field data.
Secondary duties include identifying plants for restoration projects, using GIS software and hardware to collect, develop, and analyze field data, as needed.
Required Skills
- Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust Level (NACI).
- Have strong interpersonal skills in a team-based development environment.
- Excellent oral communication skills.
- Clear understanding and skills to grow native plant plugs in both a greenhouse and outdoor setting.
Required Experience
- knowledge of plant propagation techniques.
- knowledge of seedbed preparation, plug sowing, and plug planting
- the ability and knowledge to collect wild seeds from native plants and document
- ability to manage large scale nursery production inventory including growth stages and seed processing
- knowledge of seed stratification and seed cleaning
- knowledge of native grasses and native forbs
- knowledge of greenhouse operations.
- Experience creating and editing maps using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop 10.x software.
- Experience using handheld GPS data collectors, such as Trimble/ ArcPad, to collect, QA/QC, and develop field data for use in analysis and map production.
Desired:
- Developing GIS data for use in project planning and execution
- 2 years' professional experience working with military personnel, and collaborating with government agencies and nonprofit groups on natural resources issues in a professional environment.
- Experience working with Senior DoD Leadership
- Experience working with the military in a Range environment
- Experience in program design and definition
- Experience compiling data for use in requirements analysis
- Experience defining data collection techniques
- Experience assessing land damages and applying knowledge of rehabilitation to project determination
- Experience conducting vegetation surveys
- knowledge of best management practices for prairie restoration
- ability to lead small teams for long days in the field on large scale plant installations
PREFERRED:
- Degree in Natural Resources or Environmental Science related program
- [botany/plant identification/nursery experience]
- Herbicide/pesticide applicator license
- ArcMap/ArcGIS/ArcPad
- Ability to lift 50-75 lbs
Salary: $60,000 - $65,000 per year
