JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Lead Phlebotomist is responsible for all the accountabilities in the Phlebotomist and Phlebotomist II job descriptions. The Lead Phlebotomist is a subject matter expert and resource. Acts as a mentor and role model. Sets priorities and multi tasks effectively. Organizes workflow and staff to efficiently and effectively balance specimen quality and patient satisfaction. Uses delegation to provide staff with opportunities for growth and departmental involvement/contribution. Fosters an environment of growth, education, communication, and respect. Serves as a liaison between the laboratory, patients, nurses, physicians, UVM, and other departments. Assists the supervisors in the operation of the division and serves as a resource for problem solving. The Lead Phlebotomist uses sound judgment to identify and document situations that require follow-up reporting to supervisors. The Lead Phlebotomist will act in the capacity of the phlebotomist by filling assignments on the schedule in addition to coordinating project days and ancillary tasks in a way that best meets the needs of the phlebotomy team, the patients, and the organization as a whole.
EDUCATION:
Minimum of two-year Associate Degree in health care related field preferred
Current CPR certification required
Current Phlebotomy certification required
EXPERIENCE:

Three years of work experience in a health care or laboratory setting preferred

Expertise in phlebotomy practice both clinical and clerical are required

Familiarity with Epic, Beaker and Rover preferred
