Department Overview:
The key responsibilities and duties of this position include serving as the content expert and coordinate effort in conducting research to develop new radiosynthesis methods, as well as supervise the radiosynthesis of positron emitting (PET) radiopharmaceuticals in the Center for Radiochemistry Research. This position is responsible for some equipment maintenance within the laboratory, as well as oversight of the operation and maintenance of the cyclotron and vault. This position will also serve as manager for laboratory operations for the Center for Radiochemistry Research, supervising laboratory work performed by junior laboratory staff in the lab. Laboratory management includes also coordinating and supervising all compliance related activities in the lab in accordance with FDA and state regulations.
Function/Duties of Position:
  • Independently develops new radiosynthesis methods and some quality control analyses with minor direction from the Director of the CRR. Responsible for most of the radiochemical synthesis using cGMP manufacturing methods. Directly works with the Director of the CRR to schedule radiosyntheses.
  • Direct supervision of junior chemists in the lab. This includes disciplinary action, coaching, team building, delegation of tasks, and managing overall performance. Provides training and guidance for members in the lab in the space of radiochemistry, automated synthesis methods, and cGMP techniques.
  • Is responsible for overall cyclotron operation at the CRR, this includes ensuring safety and compliance standards are met, managing all required records pertaining to the cyclotron operations, managing and scheduling all maintenance needs of the cyclotron and corresponding vault area.
  • Oversees maintaining laboratory supplies per cGMP standard operating procedures. Trains other chemists in PET radiochemistry and manufacturing methods using cGMP procedures. Also maintains and repairs all automated radiosynthesis units. Supervision of laboratory operations, including oversight of compliance and regulatory measures in the lab.
  • Create and maintain research document, records etc. Run and maintain instrument qualifications and environmental controls for the PET radiopharmaceutical manufacturing under the direction of the Center Director
Required Qualifications:
  • PhD with major courses in relevant field and 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Training in PET Radiochemistry techniques, cyclotron operation
  • Experience working with positron emitting radionuclides, remote and automated systems.
  • Experience working with Cyclotron and in the management of laboratory operations.
