As part of the HR Operations team, the Payroll Tax Analyst ensures the accurate, timely review and reconciliation of federal, state and local payroll taxes, including but not limited to: withholding tax, unemployment tax, and disability insurance tax for multiple legal entities in the US and Canada. This includes monthly preparation of accrual journal entries for workers compensation, 401K, payroll and benefits and also wage analysis. This position supports tax audits, inquiries and notices related to payroll taxes.
The Payroll Tax Analyst will work closely with ADP and the Accounting Department to ensure accurate payments of taxes as well correct allocation of costs. Position responsibilities also include gathering information, consolidating data, researching tax laws, and corresponding with ADP and governmental agencies to support the overall tax initiatives of Cambria.
This role offers a Remote/WFH flexible schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reconcile payroll tax reports for federal agencies, multiple states and local entities between ADP and Workday
- Review and reconcile payroll tax returns accurately and timely
- Reconcile and prepare journal entries for monthly payroll, workers compensation, benefits and 401K accounts.
- Prepare monthly wage analysis and headcount analysis for Accounting
- Research payroll required taxes for federal agencies, multiple states, and local entities on an ongoing basis and ensure they are entered on time in our Payroll system
- Partner with Payroll team on auditing and ensuring proper state and local taxes are set up for employees
- Inform HRBPs about new taxes coming up to ensure applicable employees prepare for new taxes in a timely manner
- Support and manage federal, state and local tax audits and inquiries
- Prepare workers compensation filings and annual audits and reconcile to accruals
- Research and respond to federal, state and local tax notices
- Help maintain the tax system and reporting software
- Research and respond to monthly P&L forecast variances related to payroll, benefits and tax accounts
- Assist with ongoing process improvements
- Create and maintain a successful working relationship with internal HR and Accounting personnel
Qualifications & Skills:
- Working knowledge of employment tax rules and filings
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and work in an extremely fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to work independently and deliver under deadlines
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Two or Four-year degree/certificate in Accounting, Business or Finance
Experience: Minimum 3 years of indirect tax and or payroll process experience; multi-state and local payroll tax experience; Workday preferred
Systems: MS Excel (Intermediate to Advanced skill level), Workday, Oracle & ADP Tax (preferred)
