Please note: This is a part time, weekend evening shift position, requiring two twelve hour hour shifts, 12 PM noon to 12 AM midnight Saturday and Sunday. Pay is 15.06 per hour plus 4.22 per hour fringe benefits. Room for growth!

Job Summary:

Security Guard for the Eastern Regional Research Center (ERRC). The guard works afternoon shifts, carries out detailed instructions and procedures oriented to insure that emergencies and security violations are readily discovered, and reported to appropriate authorities. The primary duty is to observe and report security and emergency situations. This guard intervenes directly only in situations which require minimal action to safeguard property or persons. The guard will enforce access control requirements, check identification, and monitor the property through the use of CCTV and walking inspections. These walking inspections will include three interior patrol walks and three exterior patrol walks per shift.

Security Guard Post assignments will include the following:

• Access control
• Package Screening
• Personnel screening
• Traffic control
• Visitor processing
• Vehicle inspection
• Communications and dispatching
• Patrol operations
• Emergency and event response

Physical Demands:

• Guards are expected to be physically able to perform the following tasks or functions in the performance of their assigned duties:
• Walking, standing, sitting, and stooping, up to 12 hours per day, either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime.
• Outdoor tours may require the individual to withstand extreme heat, humidity, cold, and/or severe weather (e.g., snow, sleet, rain, hail, wind).
• Climbing stairs throughout tours to each floor and checking multple out buildings on foot.
• Professional contact with the general public, law enforcement, and dispatch centers, requiring the ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations (e.g., confrontations with angry, distraught, disturbed, or violent persons).
• Ability to maintain a high degree of alertness for up to 12 hours, with the ability to mentally and physically react quickly to a variety of unexpected and dangerous situations. Use of senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch) is necessary to discern unusual or dangerous situations.
• Occasional running, sprinting, lifting up to 45 lbs. of weight, and climbing stairs (e.g., responding to emergencies, ensuring timely and complete facility evacuations, etc.).

• Must be a U. S. Citizen
• Must have a high school diploma
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs
• Must be able to read, write, understand and clearly speak English
• Ability to read/understand post assignments and write reports (handwritten and electronically using on line forms and Microsoft Office

• Prior experience in a security field highly desired
• Be dependable, possess emotional control, and operate with integrity
