Job description
The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI’s brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. DFA serves the university as planning partners, problem solvers, and solution providers—striving to make it as easy as possible for people to get the services they need, when they need them. The University of California, Irvine Police Department, provides contemporary law enforcement services including patrol, traffic, investigations, community engagement, crime prevention and suppression, and security services to a daily population of more than 50,000 people. The department employs about 50 sworn officers, 56 professional staff, and 40 students who provide public safety services at both the Irvine campus and the Medical Center, located in the City of Orange, California. Working in partnership with the UCI community, we strive to provide services based on integrity, respect, transparency, fairness, and teamwork.
The Communications Center at UCI Police Department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is responsible for coordinating public safety resources in order to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the University and Medical Center faculty, staff and students. Under the general supervision of the Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor, the Public Safety Dispatcher (PSD) staffs the Communications Center, serving as the primary link between the Campus and Medical Center communities and officers in the field. PSDs receive and relay calls for assistance via telephone, radio and computer terminals for police and hospital security and general assistance incidents. They monitor numerous radio talk groups within the University radio system, as well as neighboring law enforcement and fire agencies via interoperable County and State radio frequencies. UHF and VHF radio bands used by PSDs offer communication capabilities for greater distances and are used as an interoperability system between Local, State, Federal and Military agencies during local or large-scale incidents or disasters. The Communications Center is the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for all 9-1-1 calls originating from campus and medical center phones, and from cell phones on campus, depending on the caller?s location on campus. PSDs also answer all calls from emergency blue light call boxes and elevators on campus, and emergency blue light call boxes at the medical center. PSDs receive and enter data into the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS), as well as local and national law enforcement data bases.
