Do you like working outdoors with mountain views all day? We are looking for an applicant that is ready to grow with our town and Parks Department. Working for the Town of Berthoud includes additional benefits including a uniform stipend and free yearly membership to our Berthoud Recreation Center.

HOURS. Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Must be flexible to work evenings and weekends.

Additional Hours: Will be required to perform on-call duty, work weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary to meet the needs of the Town of Berthoud

SUMMARY. The Parks Lead must be a hardworking, self-motivated, and dependable individual able to work with or without supervision and enjoys working with the public. This position is responsible for a variety of duties necessary for the operation and maintenance of the Parks Department and is expected to lead and supervise assigned work crews and operations. The Parks Lead shall work at the direction of the Parks Department Supervisor and Public Works Operations Manager.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:

The position requires a high school diploma or GED. A valid Colorado Driver’s license and evidence of insurability is required. The Parks Lead must have the ability to work well with other employees, and the public. Experience in parks maintenance or groundskeeping is required. Must be willing to receive ongoing training on a variety of equipment, operational rules, guidelines, procedures, and methods.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assists in organizing and planning weekly schedules, projects, safety standards, and other department duties as assigned by the Parks Supervisor.
  • Supervises work crews and tasks as assigned by the Parks Supervisor
  • Performs and inspects mowing, weeding, trimming, pruning, cultivating, fertilizing, pest control, planting and cleaning of lawns, trees, plants, and parks.
  • Removes and disposes of trash and litter.
  • Maintains park and maintenance equipment, buildings, and facilities.
  • Performs construction and demolition of park facilities, drainage, low-voltage electrical and irrigation systems for new, expanded, and renovated park facilities as part of capital improvement projects.
  • Performs minor plumbing or building repair duties.
  • Operates small trucks, dump trucks, tractors, skid steers, utility vehicles, ATVs, ride–on and walk-behind mowing equipment.
  • Will be required to operate heavy equipment.
  • Utilizes a wide variety of construction tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Must have working knowledge of standard and job-specific methods, materials, terminology and safe work practices of maintenance, construction, and gardening/landscape work, along with maintenance equipment and tools.
  • May be required to interact with residents on site or when requested.
  • May be required to utilize department or Town wide software applications to maintain records or perform various duties.
  • Involves significant time walking, stooping, bending, squatting, lifting heavy objects, operating hand and power tools, equipment, and vehicles daily.
  • Considerable time spent working outdoors in occasional extreme heat and cold
  • May be required to apply pesticides and chemicals to plants, lawns, shrubs and trees.
  • Keep informed of all changes in duties related to the position.
  • Perform all other duties as may also be assigned by the Public Works Operations Manager

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Communication Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general periodicals.
  • Ability to write detailed reports.
  • Ability to respond effectively to inquiries and/or complaints.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to the public or other employees.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

    Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in maintaining the parks.
