The State of New Hampshire, Banking Department, Legal Division, has a full-time remote-hybrid eligible vacancy for a Paralegal II.

Summary: To provide assistance to attorneys in areas including legal research, investigations, consumer complaints, statistical compilation, analysis of exam findings and administrative hearings preparation. To respond to consumer complaints by answering the telephone, researching, making oral and written inquiries and analyzing complaints to help bring them to a conclusion.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate's degree or two years of college with a major study in law, paralegal studies, or a related legal field, or a paralegal certificate from a certified paralegal program. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Three years' experience in legal research, legal investigative, paralegal work, criminal justice or an area which provided experience with legal terminology, with at least one year at the level of Paralegal I. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. License/Certification: None required.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for all aspects of consumer complaint handling for the department. Receives telephone inquiries and complaints, and explains the process for filing a written complaint with the department to ensure that the consumer's complaint receives appropriate attention. Makes telephone and written inquiries of both the complainant and the person complained about to obtain all information needed to facilitate a resolution. Expeditiously reviews and evaluates consumer complaints in detail and conducts necessary interviews. Evaluates files and documents when a written resolution has been submitted. Responds to consumer requests for complaint status.

Assists in compiling and entering data into several databases. Maintains database for consumer complaints, enters data, creates a file, generates the appropriate correspondence, tracks complaint through its finality.

Administers and maintains the department's enforcement and complaint tracking system.

Receives and analyzes telephone and written inquiries from citizens, attorneys, legislators, other regulators and businesses and ensures that the caller receives an appropriate and informative response. In some cases, the caller may be directed to another source such as local, state or federal agency. Otherwise the caller will be directly helped or contact with the appropriate departmental personnel will be arranged where the department can provide the help or information the caller seeks.

Assists attorneys in all aspects of managing the department's legal workload and participates in case management.

Provides clerical support to attorneys by handling telephone inquiries, returning phone calls, drafting letters, analyzing and summarizing consumer files and documents, and obtaining additional information from consumers and licensees when needed.

Responds to Right to Know and Freedom of Information requests. Responsible for obtaining and compiling requested data.

Monitors overdue examination and fine invoices and implements appropriate collection procedures.

Conducts legal research to help the attorneys formulate opinions for departmental "no-action" responses, interpretive orders and legal positions on law and rules.

Assists in drafting legal documents including but not limited to petitions, subpoenas, complaints, responses and orders.

Assists department attorneys and investigators in all aspects of administrative hearings preparation, presentation and follow-up. Facilitates communication with witnesses, organizes and prepares evidence for administrative hearings.
