Job description
The Attorneys for Freedom Law Firm, located in Chandler, AZ has an opening for an experienced Criminal Defense Paralegal with at least 2 years experience in criminal defense work. Our criminal department is growing and we are looking to expand our team. The criminal paralegals work with our attorneys on a wide variety of criminal matters including misdemeanors, felonies, appeals, and rights restoration in state and federal courts.
The ideal candidate must be computer literate, a team player, proactive, detail-oriented, highly organized, possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills, must be able to multi-task, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. This is a full-time position, Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Preparing and filing legal documents in municipal, justice, county, and federal courts.
- Calendaring court dates and managing client deadlines.
- Managing client files including, updating client information, notes, time, and expenses in Clio, our client management software.
- Interacting with and obtaining information from clients, law enforcement agencies, court officials, prosecutors, witnesses, experts, and others.
- Daily client communication.
- Assist in trial preparation.
- Provide a positive experience to ensure client satisfaction.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing, proofing materials, calendaring, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of technical legal terms, knowledge of criminal defense procedures a plus.
- Must be a pro-active problem solver with the ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to prepare legal pleadings, memoranda, and correspondence.
- Ability to analyze situations and use good judgment in making decisions.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience with Clio a plus.
- Must be responsible, reliable, and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to interact effectively with staff and clients.
- Experience with state and federal appellate court filings a plus.
