Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by two years experience in painting or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to paint, refurbish/refinish, and clean a variety of surfaces and structures within Fulton County. Painter is distinguished from Painter, Lead in that the latter performs a variety of painting duties in accordance with standard trade practices in addition to providing lead direction to assigned staff.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crew or co-workers: confers with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks in order to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with co-workers, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise; assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment; assists with supervision of co-workers by reporting employee problems and providing input on disciplinary action and employee performance evaluations. Ensures compliance with laws, rules, and standards governing building maintenance operations.

Performs skilled painting tasks on specified surfaces and structures: surveys areas in need of painting; gathers equipment and tools required to complete the task, such as spray gun, power washer, sand paper, paint, etc.; prepares surface areas for painting by moving furniture, taping off unpainted surfaces such as molding and trim, applying putty to patch holes, plastering, power-washing, scraping and sanding, applying primer to surfaces; paints resurfaced walls, ceilings, railings, light poles, handicap spaces and signs and other county structures; after tasks are completed, cleans work area, tools and equipment of any residual paint.

Performs inventory of paints and supplies on a semi-annual basis.
