As an Operations Manager Trainee in the Manager in Training (MIT) program, you will receive training in the refinery and rail industries while learning the Savage culture. Once training is complete, you will be eligible for placement as an Assistant Operations Manager or Operations Manager at open locations across the U.S. The Operations Manager Trainee will learn how to become a Savage Operations Manager who’s responsibility will be to oversee the day-to-day responsibilities for a Savage operation including customer interactions, safety, supervising, hiring, developing a team, delegating work assignments, making business decisions, working across functional teams, etc.
MIT Program Expectations
- Participate in a 10-12 month training program
- Rotate locations every 4-5 months, primarily in the Houston and Port Arthur, TX areas. If necessary, temporary relocation assistance may be available
- Additional travel may be required
- Ability to work all scheduled hours overtime and/or overnight if required
- Complete an extensive blended learning program, including classroom and on-the-job tasks
- Successful comprehension of each training module
- Embraces, teaches and exemplifies the Savage Vision and Legacy and Strategic Framework
- Upon program completion, agreement to relocate for an Operations Manager position is required. The position will be located in one of 48 states.
- Prior leadership experience (5+ years or more leading direct reports)
- Prior refinery and/or transportation experience (a plus)
- Customer service experience (a plus)
- Previous maintenance experience (a plus)
- Ability to analyze situations and data to make sound decisions
- Ability to train Team Members
- Computer skills (MS Office Suite)
- Excellent communication skills: written and spoken
- Excellent organizational skills
- Detail oriented and self-starter
- Must have a Valid Driver’s License and acceptable MVR
- Be able to pass Savage and/or Customer pre-employment drug and alcohol screening including hair follicle testing
- Be able to pass Savage and/or Customer physical, with or without reasonable accommodation (if applicable)
- Be able to meet all Customer requirements to work in their facilities such as DISA and/or ISTC criminal background checks, respirator fit testing (must be clean shaven), safety training, etc.
- Have or be able to obtain a TWIC
