Major Purpose:
Provide support to operations on applicable consumable products used to perform necessary operational processes. Work with suppliers and category buyers/management to strategically plan and purchase the best quality, and total cost products from our supply base. Support and assist in the management, administration, and development of sourcing relationships, including national account and category programs. Provide feedback and recommendations to category buyer/management for best possible products, solutions, and purchasing methods for products specifically related to operation processes.

Responsibilities / Job Duties:
  • Support Unit Operations for indirect purchased items.
  • Communicate with each operation management team to gather a comprehensive list of current and expected (forecasted) parts/services that will be purchased to support their operations and define the “best-buy” scenario for those products. Key points of focus include, knowledge of products needed to efficiently support operational processes, prioritize the level of daily support required based on how critical the ordered items are to Operations, for example: Product availability or shortage, highest spend amount per item, highest volume per year, etc.
  • Work efficiently with category buyer/management to ensure a robust strategic plan is developed and followed to drive continued benefit to the operation.
  • Researches products, prepares purchase orders and places orders, and selects vendors.
  • Organizes product information, and tracks back orders. Obtains materials from suppliers at the lowest cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source and urgency of need.
  • Studies market trends, interviews vendors, and recommends sources of supply. Analyzes quotations received, selects or recommends suppliers, and schedules deliveries.
  • Develops and maintains necessary records and files for efficient operation.
Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card, Driver’s License and obtain a Passport for occasional international travel
  • Excellent computer skills including intermediate to advanced Excel proficiency
  • High aptitude for analyzing data and deriving sound business decisions
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate throughout multiple levels of the organization
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, accounting, finance or related field required
  • Related work experience preferred
  • Experience in applicable industries - such as refineries, transportation, rail, trucking, marine - preferred
Physical Requirements:
  • Work is predominantly in a professional office environment. Will be exposed to hazardous materials typical in an office setting. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Will be required to make regular job site visits which are industrial in nature, and require walking over uneven surfaces for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, and other similar activities. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, hazardous materials, loud noises, heights, tight spaces, dust, chemicals, and fumes.
  • Must be willing and able to wear appropriate PPE as required by the job sites.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a respirator fit test.
  • Requires approximately 5-10% regular travel, principally inside North America, which includes extended overnight travel, evenings and weekends.
