About the Work:
Honor’s Occupational Health & Safety Team is looking for the next great addition to their Workers’ Compensation program. The Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator (“OHS Coordinator”) is responsible for the intake and review of Honor’s work-related incident reports, using their independent judgment on the appropriate next steps, along with managing their own tier 1 level incidents from injury to RTW, and ensuring work-related injuries are reported timely to the company’s WC claims administrator, as well as other general administrative and operational support items related to the operations of the WC program. This position will act as an initial point of contact for injured employees and fellow stakeholders. The OHS Coordinator will work with other OHS team members to administer and review tier 1 active claims to stay apprised of developments, review documents, and assist the team with clerical tasks such as indexing, pulling wage statements, and routing requests for information to the appropriate party. The OHS Coordinator will also handle assigned tasks within the company’s Risk Management Information System (“RMIS”).
Responsibilities
- Reviewing work-related incident reports and timely reviewing with OHS team members for next steps, upto and including reporting of workers’ compensation claims to Honor’s claim administrator.
- Support the claim handling process by gathering and providing important details, documentation, case strategies and other relevant items to the requesting party(ies).
- Manage tier 1 incidents (minor injuries with 30 days or less loss time) from injury to RTW.
- Play an important role as an advocate to injured employees and help to provide clarity and support through the claim handling process.
- Help in identifying and coordinating possible work accommodations for employees released to work with temporary restrictions.
- Partner with the HR Department to appropriately status employees on leave due to work-related injuries.
- Provide guidance and act as a resource to various internal stakeholders when work-related injuries occur.
- Various clerical tasks such as indexing incoming correspondence, creating follow up tasks, and other duties as assigned.
About you:
To succeed in the role, you’ll need:
- Undergraduate degree, certification, or equivalent work experience (typically gained through 1-3 years’ experience in WC, HR, benefits, leave administration or related field) required.
- Industry designations such as WCCA, WCCP, CWCP, CPDM, or similar desired.
- Experience with WC claims or safety incidents in a corporate, carrier/TPA setting is preferred.
- Effective dispute resolution skills; can navigate through difficult and escalated conversations while maintaining composure, showing empathy, and finding a positive resolution.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Exceptional computer skills, including Google Suite and Microsoft products.
- Ability to communicate well with all personality types, as well as external vendors, and internal peers in a professional and collaborative manner.
- Solid investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills - able to effectively track status of a variety of tasks/projects and utilize systematic organization tools to meet deadlines and manage workload.
- Ability to quickly shift focus while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise prudent discretion regarding confidential and sensitive personnel information.
