Job Description

This position will be responsible for the US import/export HTS classification process and sourcing of FDA required information.

Job Duties

  • Manage and monitor the HTS classification work performed by Olympus staff and outside contractors.


  • Manage the global sourcing of FDA product information to facilitate the import of our medical devices, components and accessories and align with HTS database management.


  • Oversee import and export HTS classification process and database management supporting Olympus’s global tariff process.


  • Act as the liaison between outside contractors, business partners, and suppliers to ensure timely and accurate HTS classification.


  • Conduct import/export classification audits; determine root cause; implement corrective actions; and report results to management.


  • Review the classification process on-site at Olympus facilities as needed, acting as the in-house resource on import and export classification matters identifying import and export risks and opportunities.


  • Maintain and draft periodic updates to HTS classification Import & Export compliance policies and procedures and HTS classification training material.


  • Conduct trainings on the policies, procedures, and training materials to both internal and external parties.


  • Monitor key HTS classification industry developments, legislative, and regulatory changes affecting Olympus.


  • Interface with Olympus business management, Olympus Government Affairs team, Olympus Leadership team, customs brokers, freight forwarders, internal/external legal counsel, customers, suppliers, and government officials.


  • Directs issues for Customs clearance related to HTS classification as appropriate.


  • Drafts binding ruling requests and responses to CBP Form 28 Request for Information related to HTS classification.


  • Assignment and management of Antidumping/Countervailing Duty compliance.


  • Conduct Annual Free Trade Agreement opportunity analysis and implement company FTA procedures as applicable.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:

  • College Degree or equivalent work experience required.


  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in classification Customs Broker License.


  • Travel/hours availability (Travel 10%).


PREFFERED QUALIFICATION:

  • Strategic thinker with proven leadership skills, project management and tactical implementation success.


  • Proven research and technical import-export skills including use of Customs and Export regulations, HTS, Explanatory Notes, rulings, court cases, and Valuation Encyclopedia, as well as a thorough knowledge of entry processing, international freight industry standards and practices, and Incoterms.


  • Ability to identify, develop, and implement process improvements.


  • Experience in developing and delivering training on site or via remote web-based applications.


  • Experienced in drafting formal Customs correspondence.


  • Ability to develop professional working partnerships internally and externally.


  • Proven ability to identify, take ownership of, develop, implement and manage complex trade compliance requirements and programs utilizing project management or Six Sigma quality tools.


  • Detail oriented and possessing good analytical and problem-solving skills; able to anticipate problems and diffuse situations.


  • Excellent skills in organization, prioritization, and negotiation; must excel under pressure.


  • Able to motivate others to drive peak performance.


  • Must be self-motivated, goal oriented, and able to work independently in producing results.
