Job Summary
The Development Program Electrical Engineer position will primarily focus on the mine’s power distribution infrastructure and expansions. The secondary focus is to provide engineering support to the electrical department, and the various mining equipment (Shovels, Draglines, Trucks and Plant).
Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Mission and Values.
- Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
- Configure and audit mine site feeder and motor protection relays.
- Manage power coordination studies relating to mine site power distribution.
- Responsible for recording and analyzing equipment’s electrical data and recommending corrective action to prevent premature equipment failure, while maximize equipment performance.
- Prepare reports that support the department goals as they relate to equipment life, performance, and costs.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA).
- Project management to include areas of concern such as energy exposure studies.
- Conduct safety observations and audits monthly.
- Other duties as assigned by the Company.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Experience in mining or other industrial electrical or energy environments, preferred
- Experience in engineer project planning
- Knowledge of power distribution systems
- Knowledge of AC and\or DC electrical motor & control systems
- Familiar with programable automation controllers (Allan Bradley or other ladder logic PLC)
- Ability to perform cost benefit analysis
- Ability to collaborate with multiple departments and people
- Ability to use electrical CAD software (AutoCad Electrical, Etap)
- Familiar with NFPA 70E Arc Flash regulations
- Familiar with NFPA 70 National Electrical Code
- Ability to obtain MSHA Electrical qualified certification within 12 months
Physical Requirements
SURFACE ENVIRONMENT
- Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
- Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
- Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
