Job description

Westminster Presbyterian Church (WPC) seeks a part-time Contemporary Music Director to develop and oversee the contemporary music ministry of WPC assuring musicians are prepared to offer music during worship services and special church events. The music of Westminster is intended to lift our hearts toward God; to inspire us in our efforts to serve God; and to enhance the beauty, joy, and power of Christian worship incorporating a variety of musical styles and mediums.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan for and lead rehearsal to prepare for worship leadership during church music season
• Rehearse prior to worship when praise team or Hearts of Praise is leading in worship and provide musical leadership
• Choose music for praise team to include music in music library as well as new additions
• Attend worship when praise team is leading in worship
• Grow and enhance contemporary music ministry
• Coordinate expenditures of music or other items with music coordinator
• Communicate with volunteers in praise team regarding rehearsals, worship leadership or other needs that arise
• Assist with planning and preparation for special music services in conjunction with music coordinator
• Communicate audio/visual needs to Music Coordinator
• Recruit instrumentalists/vocalists to participate in praise team music ministry of the church
• Other duties as assigned by the Head of Staff to enhance worship praise music.

• Inspirational, Christ-like leadership
• Demonstrated skills and experience in leading music in a church setting
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as part of a ministry team
• Exposure to various worship forms and styles
• Available September 1 through May 31 for Praise Team and Hearts of Praise

Skills

• Organization, administrative and leadership skills
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Skilled vocal/instrumental musician
• Able to recruit and coordinate with volunteers from the congregation to engage them in music ministry

Accountability: Accountable to the Pastor as Head of Staff.

Pay: Salary based on qualifications, but approximately $4,000 for part-time work from September 1 through May 31.
