Food Service Worker/School Cook

The Morrison Lab School provides child care and learning experiences for children of Orange County Community College students, children of faculty and staff members, and children from the general community. We provide services for children ranging from 6 weeks old through to the end of pre-school age. We are open Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Morning, afternoon, and full-day programs provide a healthy, happy, and stimulating learning environment. Each child is able to explore and learn through a variety of activities, including music and movement, creative art, story time, outdoor play, and child-directed, center-based readiness experiences. The Lab School is licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

Job Description:
The Food Service Worker will report directly to the Director and Assistant Director of the Morrison Lab School. The Morrison Lab School provides care for children from 6 weeks into Pre-Kindergarten. We provide high quality, affordable and accessible child care to the children of Orange County Community College students, employees and the community. The Morrison Lab School also serves as an exemplary teacher training site for students in the Early Childhood Education Department.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Attend all staff and in-service meetings
• Meet and maintain mandated training requirements as stipulated by the NYS OCFS relevant to current position.
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with children, staff and families.
• Effectively establish and maintain working relationships with supervising personnel, coworkers, all college employees and the public.
• Prepare, cook, and serve all meals and snacks for all classrooms, including special events.
• Maintain overall cleanliness, organization, and operations of the kitchen in accordance with regulations of the Orange County Health Department.
• Ensure that all food, eating, cooking/serving, and cleaning supplies are properly ordered and stocked in collaboration with, and under the direct supervision of the Morrison Lab School Director.
• Complete the daily CACFP Food Production Record in a timely and accurate manner.
• Collaborate with the Morrison Lab School Director and the CACFP Nutrition Consultant to develop approved menus that meet CACFP standards.
• Adhere to the approved menus, only making substitutions in emergencies and with prior approval from the Morrison Lab School Director and/or Assistant Director.
• Post monthly menus and distribute them to all classrooms.
• Submit all records of purchases in an accurate and timely manner.
• Conduct and/or assist with special student activities, as needed.

Job Requirements Food Service Assistant:

Education/Experience Required: An Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field and one year experience working in a licensed child care facility OR A High School Graduate (or GED) and a Child Development Associate Credential and two years teaching experience in a licensed child care facility.
One year of experience working in food service, preparing and/or cooking meals in childcare or school setting; must possess a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions:
Must be physically able to care for children and move about the classroom freely. Must be able to lift or carry children up to 50 lbs, and infrequently travel between buildings on campus.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related discipline.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to effectively establish and maintain a working relationship with supervising personnel, co-workers, all college employees, and the public.
• Ability to manage multiple projects.

Hours for this position are 7:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m..
