Our Microphone Engineering team helps drive microphone hardware design, validation, and problem-solving to minimize distracting audible noises and optimize sound quality across Apple product lines. We are a diverse team of acoustics, mechanics, electronics, physics, and MEMS experts; accomplished listeners, and creative problem solvers. We work closely with multi-functional teams on innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges. We are searching for a MEMS Microphone Module Engineer to support our ability to develop new microphone modules. Could this be you?

Key Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience and proven track record in sensor hardware development or characterization. Direct experience with MEMS microphone preferred.
  • Knowledge of mechanics, materials science, or acoustics and an interest in applying that knowledge to microphone packaging design and module assembly
  • Curiosity in reliability testing and failure analysis, including IPx
  • Experience in MEMS sensor assembly and manufacturing
  • Familiarity with assembly techniques (solders, adhesives, etc.) and material interactions (chemical, thermal, mechanical susceptibilities)
  • Exposure to semiconductor and MEMS backend processing is a bonus
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with multi-disciplinary team members

Description

Do you have an inventive design approach and enjoy the challenges of MEMS sensors? As a MEMS Microphone Module Engineer, you will drive the development of MEMS microphone modules, with a focus on the package design and module assembly. This will include future-looking development on novel packaging concepts and support for existing designs throughout all engineering product development phases. You’ll regularly engage with a multi-functional team of MEMS and electronics experts, system mechanical design engineers, technical operations team members, as well as external partners. You will encounter novel problems, and where necessary, develop new tests and characterization strategies to advance our understanding of the problems and validate solutions. This roles requires regular communication of your work with a diverse, multi-functional team working on acoustic modules via presentations on status, risk, and mitigation strategies. Your creativity, ability to think dynamically and laterally to convention to quickly solve such technical challenges will be key. At times, this may involve some international travel (10%).

Education & Experience

Most of our engineers have degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Acoustics, with an emphasis on sensors or volume manufacturing of micro-devices, but if you’ve followed a different path to expertise in Microphone Design, we still want to hear from you.

Pay & Benefits

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $109,500 and $207,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
