Responsibilities*

Assist in development and validation of various complex tests for implementation in the clinical Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory. Assist in planning and carrying out various molecular biology based laboratory analyses for clinical research projects. Serve as a technical reference person to clinical technologists, management, and visitors in the laboratory. Troubleshoot and resolve instrument problems. Train clinical technologists and perform new clinical test procedures. Assist in instruction of residents and students. Prepare and present reports at local and national meetings. Assist in the analysis and preparation of data for publication.

Required Qualifications*

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

BS, MLS with ASCP certification or eligible or a BS in a related science field. Must have previous experience and be highly proficient with a variety of molecular techniques.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Works with infectious disease and/or hazardous materials. May have exposure to noise from laboratory equipment and pneumatic tube system. Requires frequent (standing/walking/sitting/hand pipetting) for long periods of time and the ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Desired Qualifications*

Post-graduate training in molecular biology or a related field. Experience with clinical test development and validation. Experience with capillary electrophoresis, real-time PCR, Sanger sequencing, and second-generation sequencing and data analysis. Certification by an appropriate health agency.
Work Schedule

This full time, 40 hour position is on the evening shift, M-F 11:30 am-7:30 pm and will require rotating weekends, holidays and on-call with other team members.
Work Locations

This position will physically be located at the North Campus Research Complex, 2800 Plymouth Rd, Ann Arbor.
Additional Information

A $3000.00 signing bonus is available.
Background Screening

Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
