Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts the daily review, analysis, creation and updating of reorder levels, parameters and replenishment methods for inventory items to ensure the correct parts, supplies, and equipment are available when required in the right quantity and at the right locations.
  • Interfaces directly with Maintenance, Engineering, Purchasing and other departments to determine material requirements. Effectively communicates with suppliers to expedite material and resolve order discrepancies or delivery issues.
  • Reviews daily system generated purchase requisitions and replenishment parameters of stock items to secure better price or delivery. Recommends new values, and approves changes to item data files.
  • Identifies surplus and obsolete inventory due to retired fleets. Creates advertisements and solicitations for the purpose of selling excess and obsolete equipment/supplies. Coordinates with Operations, Environmental, Finance, Safety and other departments, both internally and externally, to ensure the best price is obtained.
  • Maintains the perpetual inventory system, adding and modifying data against the inventory master. Trains users in inventory control and system maintenance to ensure they have a working knowledge of inventory systems. Provides technical support for field locations on automated replenishment and warehousing options.


Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area, and two (2) years of applied experience in Maintenance/Operations and materials management such as inventory, purchasing, shipping/receiving, and accounts payable.
  • One year of closely related work experience can be substituted for each year of education required. Technical background in trains and parts desired.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Access and Word is required.
  • Proficiency in manipulating data required to generate various inventory reports required.
  • Familiarity with automated inventory/purchasing system required.
