The Material Handler verifies & processes incoming shipments according to corporate procedures, distributes materials to all departments and places materials into the proper locations. Prepares customer orders for shipping according to customer specs, ensures shipments meet company quality standards, and assists in loading and unloading trucks. Prepares, verifies, records, data enters and files all necessary documentation as required by internal company procedures and vendor freight systems. 1st shift available.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ability to operate safely, efficiently, and accurately the following equipment:
    • Various office machines: including telephone, fax machine, copy machine, alpha numeric keyboard, PA System, Computerized UPS system, courier service system and Federal Express system.
    • Forklift-electric pallet jacks, manual pallet jacks (various types).
    • Automatic dock levelers.
    • Electronic pallet wrappers and scales, Metal strapper / crimper machines.
    • Automatic / manual tape dispensers, various power tools i.e. power, circular & reciprocal saws.
    • Electronic battery chargers, electronic security, electric overhead door.
  • Prepares skids and cartons for scheduled shipments to include labeling, shrink wrapping, shipment recordkeeping, and transfer to carrier according to customer and job ticket specifications.
  • Determines proper packing requirements to ensure the safe handling of products and meeting customer specifications.
  • Accurate and timely shipment preparation utilizing computerized Federal Express, UPS, International Air Freight software, etc. in compliance with standard shipping/receiving procedures.
  • Counts all materials received, verifies with packing lists, and internal purchase orders.
  • Inspects shipments for damages or defects; records discrepancies or damages and notifies Manager, and/or Purchasing.
  • Traces lost or delayed shipments; initiates claims for loss/damage on both incoming materials and customer shipments & notifies purchasing.
  • Delivers items to departments and obtains authorized signatures for accepted items.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Forklift-electric pallet jacks, manual pallet jacks (various types) certified
  • Ability to follow written & verbal instructions, read & write legibly, good communication skills.
  • lift to 50lbs with frequent lifting and/or carrying of up to 25lbs
  • Be able to move freely on foot throughout the plant, stand for sustained periods of time, perform repetitious lifting, bending, turning, twisting, grasping, carrying, pushing, pulling, loading, and torquing functions.
