Marketing Communications and Social Media Manager

Part Time: twenty-thirty hours/week

$40-$60/hour based on experience

Location: Chicagoland area. Work from home. Support local events in person.

Gabriel's LIght is an organization born from the tragedy of losing our twelve-year-old son to suicide. In honor of our son, and all those lost to suicide, we share our journey with the hope that others may learn and from our tragedy. Through outreach, programs, partnerships, and funding, we raise awareness and inspire youth, parents, and educators to take action and help forward our mission.

Our mission is to prevent youth suicide through education, cyber safety, and kindness campaigns.

We seek a unique individual, passionate about our mission and able to put that passion to work with your marketing and social media skills. Meeting deadlines, reliability, highly organized and prioritizing work is a must. We are now hiring a part-time Marketing Communications Manager. This individual would work directly with the President and youth in our Youth Ambassador program, as well as with our certified contract mental health educators.

Essential Job Functions

Strategy & Overall Planning

  • Consult with President to plan the annual strategy
  • Guide the team through strategic planning and document determined plan
  • Work with President to assess opportunities and develop ideas for forwarding the mission and fundraising
  • For events, partnerships, and key initiatives, help define strategy and determine execution plan
  • Marketing & Communications Materials
  • Develop concepts and content for all written materials (presentations, mailings, posters, event needs and fundraising) from strategy and planning through copywriting and editing
  • Determine appropriate medium for materials from presentations to print
  • Provide graphic design services when possible for materials or oversee graphic designer
  • Source photography and graphics needed
  • Find printers or vendors as needed and manage vendors from price quote through execution
  • Develop speaking points for media spots and presentations
  • Program Support & Training
  • Support management of programs such as youth ambassador program
  • Develop youth ambassador programs or curriculums and all associated materials including training
  • Attend/lead online meetings
  • Provide online training for youth ambassadors when needed
  • Support youth ambassadors or other consultants with brand-related needs and oversee use/creation of branded materials
  • Social Media, Newsletter, & Website Updates
  • Maintains/oversees all social media platforms
  • Develop monthly content for social media that aligns with mission, themes, and holidays or events.
  • Source images and design all social posts
  • Schedule posts in Facebook messenger for Facebook and Instagram.
  • Add posts to LinkedIn for key dates or events
  • Update homepage of website with key messaging and links
  • Add new pages and forms to the website as needed for special events
  • Update Youth Ambassador pages for new sessions and programs
  • Support newsletter creation with images, suggested content, copywriting support
  • Day-to-day oversight of comments or proactive community building on social media
  • Website & Newsletter
  • Working with President develop website and newsletter communications and recommend improvements and tactics to increase traffic
  • Maintain email database and contact management system.
  • Use Google Analytics to monitor website trends and proactively provide recommendations on ways online visibility and traffic can be improved.
  • Manage organization photo archive in Dropbox
  • Manage and improve online fundraising platforms
  • Skills
  • Website building & updating experience for website (Gabriel’s Light uses Square Space)
  • Email & text marketing knowledge & experience for newsletter (Gabriel’s Light uses Constant Contact)
  • Fundraising software experience. (Gabriel’s Light uses OneSource)
  • NOTE: this software is pretty straightforward to learn, even if you have never used it.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-7 years of experience in non-profit marketing
  • 3+ years of experience working on a team.
  • A Bachelor's degree or an advanced degree in business administration, marketing or communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service to donors, volunteers and community stakeholders.
  • A comprehensive understanding of marketing communications principles and practices, and a demonstrated high level of professionalism, collegiality, self-motivation, and success in marketing communications.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, great attention to detail, the ability to process and maintain confidential information, and develop strong relationships with both internal and external constituencies to promote a positive collaborative spirit across the organization's network.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills a plus.
  • Translating materials to Spanish a plus.
