This position supports MEC projects and programs focusing on the ocean, and scientific and environmental literacy. The successful applicant will develop educational materials and activities, coordinate logistical arrangements with a variety of participating audiences, instruct or assist in instruction, maintain records, and assist in report-writing. The applicant will be responsible for successful implementation of a specific MEC program. The position includes significant interaction with project partners and audiences from a broad spectrum of communities (students, teachers, lifelong learners, stakeholders, researchers and members of the public).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Successfully implement assigned MEC program and associated project-level tasks such as employee supervision, program evaluation, environmental data management, instruction and activity coordination, scientist engagement, digital and science content development, or social media presence.
  • Implement existing programs, including instruction, evaluation data collection, and environmental data collection and analysis.
  • Assist in development of new educational activities and materials, including digital and social media, and conduct background research to develop new content and evidence-based student-active programs.
  • Use and maintain lab and field equipment, supplies, and workspaces.
  • Maintain certification in CPR, first aid, and water safety qualifications and responsible for safe conduct of minors on campus.
  • Develop and foster relationships within the marine education community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a natural science, science education, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups. Valid Driver’s License required. Ability to complete CPR and First Aid certification (training provided upon hire).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge and ability to work with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel for frequent day-trips and occasional overnight stays.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively to explore unfamiliar topics.
  • Ability to be flexible in working with different project teams and transitioning from one project to another.
  • Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from various audiences.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific information.
  • Ability to use basic equipment for teaching and research in the field (e.g., GPS receivers, water quality tools, kits and instruments) and laboratory (e.g., microscopes, analytical balances).

Preferred Qualifications
One to two years related experience and/or training.
