A day in the life of a Manager, Volunteer Services at Hackensack Meridian
Health includes:
- Establish, in consultation with management, the Medical Center's volunteer needs.
- Set goals and objectives for the volunteer program to provide an extra dimension of care and service to patients, visitors and support services to the Medical Center Staff.
- Recruit, and orient new volunteers; train and assign them to suit their skills and desires and the Medical Center's needs.
- Supervision of the overall program, volunteers and office staff (Tour Coordinator).
- Interact with all departments utilizing volunteers; community organizations; and professional membership organizations.
- Plan Volunteer Program consistent with institutional needs. Meet with department heads to determine volunteer service needs; Prepare, establish and interpret service policies and procedures.
- Conduct a medical interview and review medical history of volunteer applicants.
- Prepare and manage volunteer Job Descriptions and assign volunteers.
- Evaluate performance of volunteers and programs on an ongoing basis and adjust as necessary.
- Schedule volunteers and organize substitutes, as needed.
- Participate in professional associations including N.J. Association of Healthcare Volunteer Resources Professionals.
- Manage administrative tasks and record keeping.
- Develops and maintains a sound volunteer leadership structure.
- Provides guidance including assignment changes as necessary to develop the skills of the Volunteers.
- Assists Vice President in disciplinary actions.
- Assists the Vice President with the preparation of goals and objectives for the department on an annual basis.
- Assists the Vice President with all phases of volunteer recruitment, budget preparation, planning and implementing all Volunteer Recognition Programs, and other tasks as required.
- Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- College Degree or equivalent.
- One to three years of experience in a supervisory capacity in Volunteer Management, preferably in a hospital setting.
- Strong community involvement.
- Service in a volunteer capacity suggested.
- Ability to organize efficiently; self-motivated.
- Work well with all levels of the organization.
- Excellent oral and written communications. Public speaking.
- Computer experience required.
