MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN- Electrical Emphasis- Vulcan Aluminum Mill

The purpose of the Maintenance Technician Electrical Emphasis is to provide electrical support to the Maintenance Department. This is an experienced level electrical maintenance position. Standard tools are to be supplied by the employee. This position requires a shift rotation from days to nights (6:00am to 6:00pm and 6:00pm to 6:00am). Maintenance Assessment is also required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Proficient in all phases of electrical safety and able to comply with all aspects of the latest National Electrical Code and OSHA requirements in performance of his/her duties as an electrician.
2. Provide a set of personal tools for use in performing his/her daily duties.
3. Knowledge of basic variable frequency drive theory and application.
4. Ability to read blue prints, schematics and diagrams in order to identify equipment and components.
5. Ability to identify and lock out all sources (zero energy state) of power to machines, equipment, and systems per Lock/Out Tag/Out procedures.
6. Knowledge of DC motor control theory, equipment and application.
7. Ability to accomplish complex wiring tasks.
8. Working knowledge of ladder logic and 5 to 10 years experience using ladder logic as a troubleshooting tool.
9. Identify subsystems or component failure in a malfunctioning electrical system, recommend plan and implement a suitable upgrade.
10. Proficient in use of a laptop/terminal computer to connect and troubleshoot PLC and Automax systems.
11. Identify electrical system deficiencies and recommend plan and implement suitable fix or upgrade.
12. Communicate the operation of new installations to plant personnel.
13. Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic equipment and their applications. Ability to troubleshoot component level at a complex level.
14. Identify subsystems or component failure in malfunctioning equipment.
15. Cut, weld and fabricate items (simple or complex) from all types of metals.
16. Plan minor equipment installation or upgrade jobs and itemize a list of materials required for a complete installation prior to starting work.
17. Support and adhere to the Plant safety rules and the Vulcan, Inc., Safety Policy.
18. Regular and predictable attendance and rotating shifts is an essential function of the job.

Qualifications:
1. A certificate/diploma from a trade school in a mechanical/electrical related field or up to 7 years or more years of mechanical/electrical maintenance related job experience in an industrial maintenance/manufacturing setting or comparable years of other experience will be considered in lieu of the education requirement above.
2. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
3. Capacity to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form.
4. Must successfully pass the Vulcan Maintenance Technician assessment.
5. Proven skills in maintenance related to troubleshooting and ability to utilize electrical and mechanical principles.
6. Thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical maintenance principles.
7. Working knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations pertinent to maintenance operations.
