Maintenance Supervisor
Primary function
Manage maintenance personnel and maintain equipment in assigned areas throughout the facility
Reports to:
Maintenance Manager but works independently with minimal supervision
Basic Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day supervision of maintenance personnel
- Provide work assignments for preventive maintenance of equipment and/or repair of equipment when necessary
- Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, the quantity of equipment, and the skill of personnel
- Monitor inventories and condition of maintenance shop to ensure safe adequate working conditions. Order repair material and spare parts as needed.
- Analyze equipment failure to prevent future problems
- Assist in Capital Expenditure planning by providing input regarding equipment failure history and recommending equipment upgrade
- Establish and enforce first-class standards of housekeeping
- Review work performance and train department personnel accordingly
- Perform Root Cause Analysis to determine failures and implement corrective actions
- Ensuring facilities, equipment, and control systems are maintained in a condition to safely and cost-effectively produce quality products
- Record repairs and maintenance performed
- Investigate accidents or injuries and prepare reports of findings
- Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, or disciplinary measures
- Compile operational or personnel records, such as time and production records, inventory data, repair or maintenance statistics, or test results
- Develop, implement, or evaluate maintenance policies and procedures
- Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies
- Examine objects, systems, or facilities and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs
- Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery or equipment
- Repair or maintain the operating condition of industrial production or processing machinery or equipment
- Examine parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear
- Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs
- Observe and test the operation of machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters or other testing devices
- Operate newly repaired machinery or equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs
- Clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment, or machinery
- Analyze test results, machine error messages, or information obtained from operators to diagnose equipment problems
Education / Experience Requirements
- Successful completion of a trade school or an associate degree in a related field required
- BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred
- Training in all areas of electrical/mechanical testing and repairs
- 2 years in industrial maintenance
- 4 years of “front line” supervisory experience in a line manufacturing role OR 2 years related experience and/or training or a combination of education & experience
- Experience with stainless steel and specialty alloys desirable
- Strong electrical experience in an industrial or steel-related environment
- Experience with high voltage distribution systems
- Strong computer skills
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications
- Rolling Mill or Melt Shop experience helpful
- CMMS experience
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a hot/cold and dusty environment
- Ability to walk and climb stairs
- Ability to prolonged standing and walking
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
