JOB SUMMARY

The journey heating and air conditioning technicians will be required to perform a variety of journey level duties in the heating and air condition systems including evaluating, operating, maintaining, trouble shooting, estimating, plan design and implementing projects in the HVAC field. This position reports to the Director of Maintenance

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate, maintain, repair and make required revisions on low-pressure gas fired boilers and all gas fire furnaces.
  • Operate, maintain, repair, and make required revisions on electrical heat pumps.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Maintain steam and hot water boilers.
  • Perform chemical/water treatment analysis on steam and hot water boilers.
  • Perform necessary tasks essential to proper operation of all computer energy management system.
  • Perform all maintenance and repair on district DDC controls.
  • Complete assigned work orders.
  • Asbestos removal.
  • Order supplies and materials as necessary.
  • Maintain, repair, and make required revisions on all freezers, coolers, and other refrigeration equipment.
  • Maintain, repair, and make revisions on various heating and air conditioning units or systems, including gas, steam, hot water, and electrical service, as well as pneumatic, electrical and electronic controls.
  • Maintain, test, and repair double check-valve and RP Devices back flow systems.
  • Maintain gas and electrical hot water heaters and circulation.
  • Maintain, repair, trouble shoot, and install low voltage wiring.
  • Maintain, service, and repair air compressors.
  • Maintain steam-cooking equipment.
  • Perform other tasks at the direction to the Director/Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma and/or GED equivalent.
  • Five years of journey level commercial HVAC experience. Licenses (industrial gas, stationary engineer second class and low voltage electrical 06A) and certification in appropriate areas as well as training and experience in refrigerant recovery and recycling systems. Digital management systems and back flow systems.
  • Must have a valid driver's license. CDL preferred. Must have the ability to acquire a CDL in the event job responsibilities require one in the future.
  • Must have the ability to acquire a Washington State Asbestos worker certification in the event job responsibilities require one in the future.
  • Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lift devices.
  • Ability to work in close restricted locations.
  • Must possess the ability to lift, push, and pull weights in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to respond to emergency calls.
  • Cooperative and willing attitude toward helping others. Must be willing to work in a team environment outside of his/her qualified field to assist other persons as needed.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

A person working in this position will exert 50 to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly while carrying, pushing, and/or pulling to move objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity. The employee may also be required to work at elevated heights and climb ladders. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND SALARY:

As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Mead Classified Trades Association (MCTA) and Policies and Procedures of Mead School District. The salary range for the position is: Step 1 $33.96 - Step 6 $36.14. New employees may be credited for previous relevant experience within the job description, with initial step placement up to step 6.

A typical work year consists of 260 days which includes 13 paid holidays. Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full work year shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance. A maximum of three (3) days of annual leave are provided for all employees based on the employee’s scheduled employment hours per day to be used for an absence during work hours. Newly hired year-round employees will accrue vacation at a rate of eleven (11) days or 88 hours per year/7.33 hours per month. Vacation may be taken only after the provisional period has been successfully completed.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
