POSITION TITLE: LPN

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Family Birthing Center LPN works under the supervision of an RN and provides high quality, individualized nursing care as directed by an RN and as ordered by a physician. Directly supervises CNAs, and nursing students to ensure and promote quality, safe and competent patient care. Provides support to healthcare providers and patients by using a professional knowledge base, technical skills, and critical thinking skills to deliver safe, competent care. Helps to provide an environment which encourages safety and customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Provide skilled nursing care as outlined in the establish plan of care.
• Collaborates in the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive plan of nursing care.
• Provide nursing services and preventive procedures within the scope of LPN practice.
• Performs focused assessments, observe signs and symptoms, and reports any changes in the patient’s condition to the charge RN.
• Knowledgeable in teaching, supervising, and counseling patients regarding their care and disease process.
• Documentation is performed accurately and timely regarding services rendered to patients, including notes on changes in condition or behavior observed.
• Answers telephone and patient calls promptly and courteously using proper etiquette. Takes accurate telephone messages and follows up verbally and/or in writing on all calls in a timely manner.
• Cleans, maintains, and cares for various procedural instruments, equipment, patient care areas, and other common work areas.
• Performs all necessary quality controls, checks the AED as assigned and follows Quality Assurance rules.
• Administers injections/immunizations and/or other medications and completes appropriate documentation.
• Restocks medical supplies; orders and maintains supplies, as necessary.
• Demonstrates an awareness of cost containment and economical use of supplies and equipment. Properly charges items as appropriate. Demonstrates time management effectively. Attends 75% of staff meetings, other meetings and in-services as requested. Is accountable for information given.
• Correctly sets up equipment for delivery table, newborn warmer and special care nursery beds.
• Supports RN and physician staff in the provision of emergency care, anticipating potential situations and needs.
• Demonstrates understanding of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and equipment. Sets up table, instruments, equipment, and supplies for operative delivery/procedures. Maintains aseptic technique and sterile environment.
• Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon and use of instrumentation, sutures, sponges, and supplies. Follows procedures for safe use of medications on the surgical field. Performs correct sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Coordinates and assists with activities for quick, efficient turnover and set up of operating room. Restocks operating room after use and checks the room once each shift to ensure that all equipment and supplies are ready for use.
