English/Language Arts Literacy Coach

10.5 month position
The Montgomery County School Board, Virginia, is now accepting applications for a secondary English/Language Arts Literacy coach position. This is a 10.5 month (210 day) position.
Primary Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Administrator of English/Language Arts and school principal(s), the English/Language Arts Literacy Coach provides support to English teachers in the development of high-quality/effective ELA instruction in grades 6-12 as well as to Reading teachers in specific instruction and intervention strategies to work with students reading two or more years below grade level. The English/Language Arts Literacy Coach provides support to teachers and principals in analyzing data and choosing appropriate interventions to improve student achievement in ELA.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Hold or be eligible for a Virginia teacher’s license in Elementary or Secondary Education with certifications in Elementary (K-5) or English Language Arts (6-12), as well as Reading Specialist (K-12)
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in providing explicit and systematic instruction within the delivery of Tier I instruction to strengthen students’ reading and writing skills.
- Experience in providing specific Tier II and Tier III intervention strategies that can be used to work with students who are reading below grade level
- Experience in curriculum development and developing lesson plans which align with the science of reading
- Experience utilizing technology in an instructional environment
- Functional knowledge of the Google platform
- Experience in fostering an inclusive learning environment
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain an unquestionable degree of confidentiality
- Ability to multitask, work with interruptions, and work under pressure
- Ability to be dependable and punctual
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of five years of experience related to the subject area to be taught
- Ability to model effective strategies for Tier I, II, and III instruction
- Ability to use assessment instruments to evaluate word recognition and language comprehension skills
- Ability to organize data from multiple schools and teachers to determine explicit and systematic instruction based on students’ needs and progress-monitor students’ response to intervention
- Ability to design and lead professional development presentations for educators
- Experience or have working familiarity with Google Drive for instruction, collaboration and course work
- Effective written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent collaboration skills
- Strong professional, interpersonal, and communication skills for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community
