The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a temporary Camp Lifeguard job opening for Camp Paradise Valley located in Burkesville, KY. Job Summary Serves as a lifeguard for all camp waterfront operations; provides constant surveillance of waterfront activities; maintains the cleanliness of the pool and lake area; monitors and controls the chemical levels of pool water ensuring proper levels are maintained at all times; prepares pool records in an accurate and complete manner; plans swimming activities at camps pool and waterfront. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of life saving techniques. Knowledge of the principles and practices of child and youth behaviorand development.

Knowledge of proper pool management. Knowledge and prior use of a power boat as used for water rescue. Ability to supervise swimmers and provide constant surveillance of pool activities in order to ensure swimmer safety and to respond to emergency rescue when needed. Ability to perform livesaving techniques, C.P.R.

and first aid procedures in emergency situations. Ability to enforce all pool rules. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children and youth. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff.

Ability to test and adjust pool water to ensure the proper chemicalbalance as well as the safety of the swimmers. Ability to prepare and maintain up-to-date pool records. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.

Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Visualand auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, andcommunicate the English language.

Ability to swim and perform lifesaving activities. Education and Experience One year experience working as a life guard preferred, or any equivalent combination of training andexperience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licenses and Certifications Certification as a Lifeguard by a nationally recognized certifying body; Life Saving Certification. CPR and First Aid Certification Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Some physical requirements of the Camp Lifeguard – Aquatics/Lakefront position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.

Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate lifeguard equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearingand eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Additional Information Camp Staff Orientation will be held June 8 - 11, 2023 and participation is required. The 2023 Summer Camp program will be held June 12 – July 14, 2023.
