Position Title:: Programmer
Position Status:: Full-time
Position Summary and Purpose:: The Programmer applies engineering techniques to determine
the best design to minimize labor, material, and overhead costs; creates sheet metal flat layouts
and nests; translates the instructions into a computer aided/automated (CAM) program. Works
with machine operators to ensure proper tooling and programs are used in development.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Create/draw accurate flat sheet metal parts from customer files, samples or sketches using
Solidworks
  • Create/maintain accurate tooling library
  • Program/nest for laser, waterjet, shear, tube laser using SigmaNest and SigmaTube
  • Nest parts for best material yield (e.g. combine orders), with the goal of eliminating
waste and utilizing the best cutting practices for each machine.
  • Work with mechanics and supervisor to determine best part development using our
proper tooling and methods .
  • Read and analyze CAD files and prints to determine best method of fabrication and
ensure manufacturability.
  • Create accurate forming prints for shop floor
  • Create and translate layout cutting into computer program (CAM) for CNC machine.
  • Program orders for optimal machine usage. Maintain at least a two day buffer between
programming of machines and usage of machines in production work.
  • Maintain organized computer and backups.
  • Work with software vendors on troubleshooting and updates.
  • Comply with all safety policies and company practices/procedures.
  • Available for overtime as needed to complete customer projects.
  • Support other areas of shop, as needed, and complete additional tasks requested by
management.
  • Understand how equipment operates and be able to assist in troubleshooting and
operation as needed

Education and Training:
Associates Degree. 5-10 years related industry experience (CNC - CAD programming, sheet
metal flat development) including SolidWorks. OSHA safety training. Knowledge of Sigmanest
and experience running HanKwang lasers and waterjet and/or Pressbrakes is a plus.
Basic Knowledge:
  • Must possess excellent mechanical knowledge and a high level of computer skills.
  • Understanding of metal cutting/bending/welding processes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Must be able to use mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry, relevant to job
functions, such as decimals, percentages, and fractions in metric and standard.
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing planning, engineering blueprints, and
sketches.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures.
  • Ability to operate required tools in a safe and responsible manner.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions::
The Programmer will have an assigned workstation/office and computer. Position requires
frequent sitting and walking and occasional standing. May require sitting and working on
computer for extended periods of time. Requires ability to communicate with others in-person
and on telephone. Manual dexterity needed for using computer keyboard and calculator. Must
have adequate vision to operate computer and complete paperwork.
May require regular lifting of up to 50 lbs, with occasional reaching, bending, and stooping,
squatting, kneeling. The Programmer may be exposed to a noisy environment, with possible
exposure to heat and cold, when going through the shop. Proper personal protective equipment
must be worn to protect hearing, hands, feet, face and other body parts from the elements and the
environment in the shop.
