LAB ASSISTANT
LABORATORY
POSITION SUMMARY
Handles the collection, preparation, accessioning, and clerical and non-technical operational aspects of the department for efficient, cost-effective and timely production of medical diagnostic interpretations on surgical pathology specimens.
Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs instruments and lab equipment if possible.
Maintains all necessary QC, QA, maintenance and repair records required by accreditation agencies.
Reconciles patient identifiers between specimens and requisitions prior to accession and communicates, investigates, and resolves any discrepancies.
Verifies orders from requisitions and accessions surgical cases in the LIS.
Segregates and packs laboratory wastes 45 percent according to established policies.
Works on special projects as requested by the Supervisor and/or Director.
Assists in the training of new employees and students.
Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to assess data reflective of each patient status and provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent Associates degree preferred At least 6 months previous experience in an anatomic or clinical laboratory preferred.
Must be able to pass pre-employment physical examination to use a full-face piece positive-pressure, air-supplied respirator.
