Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Lab Coordinator, Entertainment Engineering & Design, and Entertainment Technology & Design, College of Engineering [R0135292].
ROLE of the POSITION
The Lab Coordinator (LC) for Entertainment Engineering and Design (EED), and Entertainment Technology & Design (ETD) is responsible for supporting the educational activities of the faculty and students of the program. The LC's primary responsibility is to proctor the EED lab spaces and to ensure that the equipment and labs are accessible/secure, safe, organized, and maintained. The LC is responsible for overseeing student work in open lab sessions, and enforcing safe operating procedures. The LC is charged with routinely inspecting and adjusting the equipment in the labs. Additionally, the LC is responsible for creating and maintaining an inventory of lab supplies. The EED LC will report to the program directors to resupply the labs as necessary, and report the need to replace equipment that is beyond its life cycle or no longer serviceable. The LC is responsible for providing input to the program directors regarding upgrades and improvements to the EED lab spaces.
The Lab Coordinator position will interact with a many diverse groups. The LC works collaboratively with the program faculty from both the College of Engineering and the College of Fine Arts to support class labs, student projects, and program events. Additionally, the LC may work with other university groups, such as Facility and Risk Management, to maintain operations in the EED labs. The Lab Coordinator is expected to routinely work with students by providing instructions and demonstrations regarding the safe use of the equipment within the program's areas.
The Lab Coordinator position will contribute to program assessment reports by providing information regarding the equipment in the labs spaces, an accounting of student hours in the labs, and other relevant data regarding the use of the labs.
The Lab Coordinator must be able to accommodate additional responsibilities assigned by the Program Directors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of Associate Degree in engineering or technology from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and a minimum of five years documented industry employment experience in lieu of the bachelor degree.
The EED Lab Coordinator must have knowledge of common construction materials and fabrication techniques; knowledge of the safe operation of hand, power, and machine tools; knowledge of electronic prototyping boards and programming; experience with advanced fabrication techniques including 3D modeling, CNC programming, and the used of 3D Printers.

The LC must be familiar with engineering drawings and wire diagrams.

The candidate must be able to express engineering concepts verbally, and/or through the use of graphical and mathematical means

Candidate must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time while operating machinery. The LC must be capable of transferring raw material and projects from storage to the laboratories. The candidate must be able to hang robotic lighting instruments (lift 50 lbs. overhead).
The candidate must be able to work in low lighting areas, or areas where strobe effects are in use.

Clear communication skills required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred 1-3 years of experience working with students in a laboratory/workshop environment. In addition to the required knowledge, the preferred candidate will hold an OSHA 30 hour card, plus 3 years industry experience working in the entertainment industry. The preferred breadth of their knowledge would include an understanding of any of the following: advanced fabrication techniques including CAM and CAD software, welding and metal fabrication, and knowledge of DMX protocols or show control software.
