General Definition of Work
Performs technical and professional support for computer systems, networks, servers, and virtual computing environments. Work requires a high degree of technical knowledge of computer operating systems, maintenance processes, best practices, and extensive knowledge of systems management. Researches and recommends enterprise infrastructure systems; coordinates and manages systems installation and configuration; resolves technical problems to support customers, business applications, and systems; administers and maintains enterprise systems. Develops, documents, and maintains procedures for system management and implementation, auditing, resolutions, and root-cause analysis. Work is performed under the general supervision of the IT Operations Manager.

Essential Functions
· Manages all County infrastructure systems and drives compliance, documenting and planning, configuration, installation, maintenance, monitoring, updates/patch management, upgrades, security, training, reporting, auditing, and support.
· Responsible for enterprise storage (SAN and NAS).
· Virtualization infrastructure (VMware - ESXi/vSphere and vCenter) and Recover Point.
· Responsible for all aspects of backup systems (Barracuda, Avamar, and Rapid Recovery).
· Experience implementing and managing multiple OS platforms, specifically Windows Servers.
· Responsible for all aspects of domain management, services, and functions, including Azure.
· Working knowledge of security tools, enterprise security applications, data security, server hardening, email security, and security related hardware.
· Performs server administration tasks such as, but not limited to, documentation, inventory of physical and virtual systems, health checkups, license management, application compatibility, automation, hardening, logging, monitoring, and reporting, and root cause analysis.
· Monitor data-center health using existing management tools, and respond to issues as they arise; build, test, and maintain servers as needed.
· Complies with all Federal, State, and local plans, policies, procedures, processes, regulations, and statutes.
· Ensures Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met and/or exceeded.
· Engages with vendors to leverage product support, expertise, and solutions.
· Participate in change management for systems and infrastructure.
· Can handle multiple projects and incidents simultaneously and meets deadlines in a fast‐paced environment.
· Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The County reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Education and Experience
· Experience managing and supporting Enterprise Systems such as Microsoft 365, VxRail, Data Domain, Avamar, IDPA, Unity XT, Barracuda Essentials, virtualization, Windows servers, environmental monitoring systems, patch management, vulnerability management and mitigation, and SEIM.
· Excellent problem solving/analytical skills, knowledge of analytical tools, and complex troubleshooting methods.
· Ability to work through ambiguous work situations.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Hands‐on experience in process automation, best practice approach, technology efficiency, and effectiveness.
· Self‐motivated, able to work independently, and takes initiative.
· Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing job responsibilities and duties.
· Familiar with intermediate networking concepts.
· Knowledge of Cybersecurity Incident Response and best practices.
· Thorough understanding of the threat and attack landscape, attack vectors, vulnerabilities and how they are leveraged by malicious actors.
· Security certifications, Database Administrator certifications.
· Professional certifications - CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Security+, Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with at least 3 years relevant IT experience.
OR, associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with at least 5 years relevant IT experience;
OR, High School Diploma or GED and 8 years relevant IT experience performing the functions of systems administration as a Systems Administrator.
Special Requirements
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
Candidates selected for a position within the Information Technology Services department will be required to successfully complete a fingerprint-based background check. All IT employees are subject to work during natural disasters, extreme weather events, and cybersecurity incidents.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to the risk of electrical shock; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
