The Adult Prosecution division of the Hennepin County Attorney's Office is seeking Investigators to provide support to all complex financial crimes cases, including embezzlement, wage theft, construction fraud, labor trafficking, and vulnerable adult financial abuse.

Location and hours:

These positions are hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In these positions, you will:
  • Review cases that the police send in for possible charging.
  • Provide further investigation on cases as needed.
  • Prioritize cases based on statute of limitation and other priorities regarding investigation.
  • Provide input to the prosecutor(s) regarding what evidence is present and what areas need more investigation.
  • Collect, protect, preserve physical evidence and maintain chain of custody to ensure the admissibility of evidence in court proceedings.
  • Consult on cases for other jurisdictions/agencies wondering about how to proceed.
  • Develop and present law enforcement trainings, and community presentations.
Need to have:
One of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in criminal justice, law enforcement, business/public administration, sociology, psychology and/or a closely related field and one year or more of investigation or law enforcement experience.
  • Associate's degree in one of the above fields and three years or more of investigation or law enforcement experience.
  • Five years or more of investigation or law enforcement experience.
Nice to have:
  • Experience:
    • Conducting internet research and investigations using a variety of computer data base systems.
    • Taking digital photographs and video; preparing diagrams, exhibits, and using digital media.
    • Processing complex financial records and summarizing financial data.
    • Working in an accounting or finance environment.
    • Working in Law Enforcement.
  • Ability to:
    • Communicate effectively utilizing this skill and expertise in subpoena services and witness interviews.
    • Evaluate cases based on facts, investigation, liability, analysis and experience.
    • Conduct legal research and remain current on relevant case law.
    • Calmly and professionally interact with people on the telephone and in person.
    • Confidently defend investigative support cases when called upon to testify in court.
    • Effectively manage a demanding workload with frequently changing priorities.
