In this front-line field position, the Inspector V conducts initial inspections, re-licenure inpections, follow up inspections, and investigations of complaints and incidents as a team member or individually, including complaints related to abuse, neglect or exploitation in Licensed-only Home and Community Support Services Agencies (HCSSA). May conduct abuse/neglect investigations for other licensed only providers (Assisted Living/Home and Community Based/Day Activity Services Centers). The Inspector completes inspection/survey reports listing deficiencies/violations and prepares written reports supporting the actions and remedies recommended. Participates in surveys, inspections, and investigations with assigned team and accepts assignments as needed. Occasionally might need to testify at hearings or in court proceedings to provide information regarding policy/procedures, history, findings, or activities.

Valid driver’s license
Graduation from an accredited four-year college, university or associates degree in fields such as, Nursing, Criminal Justice, Psychology or Social work or law enforcement and/or military background; or
Experience conducting investigations.
Experience with individuals with mental illness, intellectual or developmental disabilities, or physical disabilities preferred
Experience may substitute for education year for year.

Flexibility in work hours is required for this position. The job requires 80% travel, with most travel during the day. However, some overnight and weekend travel is required, as well as occasional on-call duties for emergencies or high-priority situations with program providers. Must have reliable transportation.
This position requires using the applicant's motor vehicle to complete job functions. Applicants for this position must have a reliable motor vehicle and a valid Texas driver's license appropriate for the car and passenger or cargo load. Applicants must provide proof of insurance and license.
Newly-hired HHS employees in eligible positions will be assigned an HHS cellular phone and tablet. This position requires travel to and from interviews. This requires working independently while maintaining responsiveness to supervision and assigned units.
Factors such as education and experience may be considered when establishing the starting salary; however, the starting salary for this position may not exceed the maximum of the pay group. Experience as a Certified Peace Officer, Law Enforcement, Military Investigations, or Military Police may provide helpful skills in this position.
Note: This position is able to work a compressed workweek with options Monday-Thursday, Tuesday-Friday, and Friday-Monday, 10-hour days.
