Job description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an Information System MGR I. Mentor and assign/review tasks to junior developers to ensure project timelines and milestones are on target. Collaborate with Faculty members and other Research Principal Investigators to evaluate project feasibility related to system development including design, development and implementation. Work in conjunction with project leaders to ensure all systems and system documentation meet all regulatory guidelines. Provide system updates, upgrades and documentation as well as support and training from end users to system administrators and project managers.
Key Duties, Primary Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes, directs and controls activities of assigned staff with the goal of meeting the information system needs of department customers
- Participates with upper management in establishing direction for the department

- Facilitate requirement gathering sessions with the client which involves creating rough draft of the User Requirements Specifications
- Will also help in the resolution of ideas/features that may not be feasible based on current restraints
- Create a project management plan that integrates security throughout the life cycle and ensure that systems, applications, and processes strategically meet current and future design objectives
- Design and develop custom software, system modules, and reports for the client
- Will be responsible for evaluating, measuring, monitoring and controlling the current process application design and helps to rationalize enhance it
- Create the business test scenarios, keep track of all the alerts and defects raised in the development, testing, and production environments and provide permanent solutions and documenting all the process, finding and recommendations in all phases of software maintenance
- Implement developed software and reports as well as its support while in a production status
- Will also be responsible for implementing all aspects of an application design - high performance design architecture, coding, caching mechanisms, security, encryption, state management, debugging, scalability, code reviews, development, and testing
- Create and update user manuals
- Assist in training users on newly designed systems and software
- Provide guidance in accordance with department standards and regulatory guidelines
- Be responsible for project support by attending regular project meetings and work with stakeholders to assess future project needs
- Will also analyze any new request to determine the best course of action and work with stakeholders to define any new requirements related to the research project(s)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Annual Salary Range – $67,070 - $108,990
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science or a related field
- Five (5) years of related experience required
- Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
