JOB OVERVIEW
The primary purpose of the GIA People Partner is to serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor who provides effective HR services and advice to business leaders, managers and staff to support the delivery of GIA’s objectives and outcomes. This position plays a key role in shaping the experience of our people, specifically in our operations teams. This role works collaboratively with the business, regions and other People teams to integrate people and talent strategies with the overall organizational strategy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to the assigned business teams in all aspects that impact people, organizational dynamics, and engagement to ensure desired/expected talent outcomes are successful
  • Provides policy guidance and interpretation; recommends and implements changes as needed.
  • Partners with the COE’s to inform design considerations for employee experience programs to ensure business needs are represented.
  • Partners with line managers to ensure our line managers are equipped to manage their employees.
  • Builds people and organizational capability by translating business strategy into people strategy and results.
  • Develops strong trusted partnerships and candid coaching relationships with teams across the organization.
  • Deeply understands and engages with our long-term business goals, current organizational strengths and challenges, and opportunities for us to close the gaps.
  • Takes appropriate risks, provides candid observations, challenges assumptions and positively influences others.
  • Maintains a deep understanding of people, business needs, challenges, and opportunities and proactively creates strategies to address and improve the people experience.
  • Implements a people plan with the relevant teams, drawing on data including people analytics and employee surveys
  • Listens, observes, diagnoses and provides feedback to ensures the appropriate services and support are in place for the business as it relates to the employee experience.
  • Ensures effective change management and communication strategies and plans are in place to support strategic and operational change.
  • Leads engagement and outreach with business teams to stay informed and inform. Brings topics, concerns and opportunities to relevant people teams for input and solutions.
  • In collaboration with the business recommends and implements strategic and operational change management interventions, activities and plans.
  • Utilizes a repository of Change Management tools.
  • Champions and implements change approaches that take into account diverse stakeholder needs and perspectives.
  • Teaches and guides others on change management approaches and practices.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure corporate-wide changes made to organization’s policies and procedures are communicated internally.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of change initiatives and partners with the business and Centers of Expertise to modify strategies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
  • Experience in resolving complex employee relations issues
  • Excellent consulting skills including understanding business needs, offering solutions, and following up to ensure department success
  • Intermediate level computer skills, experience working with an HCM system strongly preferred, experience with spreadsheets, databases, cloud-based platforms preferred and virtual meeting platforms
  • Experience leading large-scale initiatives preferred
  • Experience using or developing change management frameworks required
  • Familiarity with current and emerging employee engagement approaches, tools and trends preferred
  • Excellent command of the English language (spoken and written)
  • Impeccable communication skills, written, verbal, formal presentations
  • Strong leadership presence. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, including ability to articulate and rally teams around a vision
  • Influences positively across and within diverse stakeholder groups and teams
  • Able to adapt style in observance of others’ needs
  • Navigates organizational dynamics to achieve objectives

  • While this is a hybrid role, onsite presence is regularly required.
  • Some travel outside of Carlsbad, CA may be necessary to support teams in New York, New Jersey, and other locations as relevant
  • Reports to the People Partner, Labs (US)
  • Directly supports Carlsbad Lab Operations
  • May manage indirectly more junior HR / People team members
  • Works collaboratively and builds strong working relationships across internal (including as a partner to COE’s) in a diverse, global workforce with multiple teams from operations to research
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES
Directly supervise department staff. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Institute’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, e.g., human resources, business, or equivalent experience demonstrating familiarity of multiple HR disciplines, including compensation, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and local employment laws.
  • Human resources business partner experience (typically 5+ years) gained in a mid-sized organization with a distributed, global employee base and ideally a high production/manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience working with a US-based or multinational company with US operations desired
  • Professional Human Resources (PHR or PHR-CA), Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR or SPHR-CA) or equivalent preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT (if applicable)
  • Work is performed in a designated professional office workstation and environment.
  • Extensive use of office equipment to include computer, calculator, copier, fax, and other business related machines and software.
Pay Range $100-140k
