The Department of Hispanic Studies at Oberlin College seeks one Hispanic Studies Program Assistant for the 2023-24 academic year. This is a non-renewable nine-month appointment, beginning mid-August 2023 and ending late-May 2024.
The Hispanic Studies Program Assistant is registered as a full-time Oberlin student and is expected each semester to enroll in one required practicum and two and a half additional courses of the candidate’s choice (which may include musical ensembles, athletics, or private readings as well as regular academic courses) for a total of 3.5 courses/14 credits per semester.
The Program Assistant works fifteen to seventeen hours per week for the Department. Half of the time is dedicated to tutoring students and assisting faculty in guided teaching tasks; the other half to cultural and educational programming and social activities in La Casa Hispánica, the Spanish-speaking residence hall, which is also where the program assistant lives and has responsibilities in facilitating community relationships and supporting community living standards. Selected candidates must successfully complete training provided by the Office of Residential Education and the International Student Resource Center.
Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate an intermediate to advanced command of English and should be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any area of the Humanities, preferably in Language and Literature. Candidates must show interest and potential excellence in Spanish language teaching, as well as creativity, initiative, and enthusiasm to share their culture and language with U.S. undergraduate students.
Compensation
The Program Assistant will receive room, board, and a modest stipend. The appointment carries tuition remission for a full-time course of study during the academic year.

El Departamento de Estudios Hispánicos de Oberlin College (Ohio, Estados Unidos) invita solicitudes para el puesto de Asistente del Programa de Estudios Hispánicos para el año académico de 2023-24. Se trata de un contrato no renovable de nueve meses de duración, desde mediados de agosto de 2023 hasta mediados de mayo de 2024.
