Job description
Position Title: Water Safety Instructor
Reports to: Aquatic Center Coordinator
Summary of Position: Responsible to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all types of swimming. Responsible for teaching/instructing all schedule swim groups during scheduled periods – along with Staff Swim class offerings. Responsible for supervising all swimmers during all swim periods. Responsible for completing assessments, reporting of student progress, monitoring swim clearances, organization and completion of the Monthly Cleaning Chart and Monthly Mile-Swim. Responsible for keeping the Lifejacket user type list current and updating as needed.
Essential Function:
1. Care, maintenance and cleanliness of pools and pool areas
2. Keeping up to date records for the Daily Summary Reports
3. Keeping careful and accurate records of student progress
4. Planning, organizing and implementing swim class lessons and activities
5. Enforcing all pool and facility rules and regulations
6. Ability to plan and adapt programs for students
7. Supervision of students (all swimmers) during swim periods
8. Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required. Current Driver’s license preferred. Minimum one year experience with the Special Needs and VI population preferred. Current certification in Advanced Lifesaving and/or Lifeguard Training and WSI/Water Safety Instructor - from the American Red Cross, YMCA, or Ellis and Associates required. Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid/AED Certification required.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to hear an active victim’s cry for help and see a passive victim in trouble.
Must be agile, physically able to bend, squat, stretch, reach, push up and stand for several hours at a time.
Must be able to read, write, enter dates and follow verbal/written directions prepare written reports and complete written forms in English.
