Headquartered in centrally located Chehalis, Washington, Alta operates fence board sawmills in four other rural communities: Morton, WA; Shelton, WA; Amanda Park, WA; and Naples, ID.

The Role:

Provides leadership within the department while maintaining, repairing, and changing saws for the mill.

Responsibilities:

• Manages all aspects of the filing department: materials and employees
• Ensures that the filing department follows all safety rules and policies, including using all required PPE that is specific to filing (i.e., Hexarmor)
• Schedule and approve time and vacation in HR System
• Attend management meetings
• Purchase supplies for the department
• Bench and fit of both band saws and round saws
• Maintain Micarta and Babbit guides
• Maintain filing equipment
• Sharpen chipper knives
• Perform center alignments on saws
• Transport saws
• Change saws at machine centers
• Discard and/or repair damaged saws
• Perform QC checks on saws, knives, and guides, keeping to established standards and tolerances.
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• 2+ Years of Relevant Work Experience
• Previous leadership experience preferred
• Ability to analyze and solve problems
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Work Environment

This role may operate in both an office and a sawmill. While performing the duties of this job, employees will routinely be exposed to machinery and moving mechanical parts. This position will often be exposed to noise, hazards, airborne particulates, and temperature changes.

Position Type/Travel/Schedule

This is a full-time position; overtime work may be required as projects or job duties demand.

• Ability to drive and operate PIT and other machinery.
