General Purpose:

The Group Sales Manager will sell conference space and room nights to interested conference group of varying sizes and from all over the country.

Essential Duties:

  • Builds the department top line revenue by adhering to sales strategy guidelines set forth by the Director of Group Sales. Identifies revenue opportunities for the resort based on the event profile.
  • Meets and exceeds individual room night goals. Effectively manages customer budgets to maximize revenue and meet customer needs and identify opportunities to up-sell products and services throughout the sales process.
  • Exceeds company minimum standards with the ShopTalk sales process.
  • Understands the overall market in which they sell - competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand, etc.
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with existing and new customers to include sales calls, entertainment, FAM trips, trade shows, etc. Conducts customer site inspections
  • Makes decisions, including employees/team and commits to a course of action with available information.
  • Accurately forecasts group sleeping rooms and revenue for his/her groups prior to the turnover and continues to be a part in this process after the turnover.
  • Comprehends budgets as needed to assist in the financial management of department. Understands the impact of department's role in the overall resort financial goals and objectives and manages to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.

Education:

Must have (3+) years of sales experience.

Previous experience in the hospitality industry preferred as well as administrative experience

Basic Required Skills:

  • Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • May be required: to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands:

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours per day. Walking and standing are required the rest of the working day. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.
  • Must be able to exert a well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.
  • Must be able to lift items weighing up to 25-50 lbs. as needed.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability, and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
