The Farm

Moxie Ridge Farm & Creamery is a trans-owned, small-scale farm and goat dairy on 46 acres in Washington County, NY. We produce farmstead cheeses in our licensed on-farm creamery as well as exceptional terroir-driven meats in our pastured and rotational systems.

We take a pre-industrial approach to our food production as well as all our animal management and land stewardship; it is our daily commitment to these concepts along with a focus on historical food and farming traditions that make our meats and cheeses truly exceptional. The Job

We are looking for a Part-Time Farmhand for our goat dairy. This position will be working directly with all goats on the farm and we're looking for the right fit. The right fit is a person that enjoys physical work and is genuinely inspired by working with animals in both a dairy and meat setting.

This role will focus primarily on goats and assist with births, bottle feed babies, milk in our parlor, and care for the animals on the farm through daily chores. Other tasks include mucking and barn cleanout, milk management, moving grazing fences, vaccinations and basic goat health care, and some property maintenance.

The ideal candidate will be able to learn and utilize the behavioral management system used at Moxie Ridge Farm. This management style includes identifying individual goats, keen observational skills, a cool head for goat chaos, play as movement, and the ability to make clear and informed decisions in the moment. This role will be trained directly by the farm owner and will have access to regular mentorship after 2 months.

Timeliness and good communication skills are a must. Experience is preferred but we are happy to train the right candidate.

This is a very physical role, requiring the person to be on their feet and in motion over varied terrain while working with animals. Lifting 40lb - 50lb buckets is a regular requirement and any candidate should be able to comfortably do this.

The farm and creamery are located in a rural area with no access to public transit, therefore it is recommended that only candidates with access to a vehicle apply.

This job is 20-30hrs/week starting at $16/hr. The job is seasonal and scheduled to go through December 2023 with an extension possible for the right fit.
