Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Field Services Division is responsible for the inspection, testing, regulatory compliance, operation, and maintenance of over 4,500 miles of pipeline, over 11,000 fire hydrants, and approximately 810 wastewater pump stations. This position will work in the Field Services GIS/Mapping Group.
The Field Services Division is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of GIS Technician to work in the Field Services GIS/Mapping Group. This position is an entry level technical position primarily responsible for maintaining Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data and metadata based on customer specified requirements. The position also performs GIS quality control processes using predefined processes and GIS application functionality.
- GIS data entry of water, wastewater and reclaimed water infrastructure.
- Interpret construction plans, specifications and other standards. Reads legal land descriptions and reviews plats and engineering as-built plans.
- Follows predefined processes using internal and external data sources to resolve errors.
- Documents, develops and completes data and mapping projects assigned by the unit supervisor.
- Coordinate project assignments and interacts regularly with the county staff, and utilities contract staff.
- Uses GIS graphics software and specialized applications to edit GIS graphics layers, update attribute databases, and conduct utilities project research.
- Communicate project status to departmental staff.
- Interacts with other County departments or agencies on occasion.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Associate's degree from an accredited institution in one of the following areas; geographic sciences, information sciences including the information technologies, political science and public policy, administration and business management, mathematical science, engineering technology, land and environmental studies or a closely related field and one (1) year of experience with applications used for GIS data maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education or experience.
Experience with GIS data maintenance and mapping production processes.
Experience reading and using legal descriptions and interpreting aerial photographs.
ESRI ArcGIS suite including ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo, and/or ArcGIS IMS/ArcGIS Server platform,
Familiar with Access and Oracle databases and the ability to query and manipulate data using query tools.
Experience with Utility Watere, Wastewater, and Reclaimed Water infrastructure.
Hours per week: 40
Working Hours: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week - or - 10 hours per day, 4 days per week
