JOB TITLE: GIS Software Developer

CLIENT: US Geological Survey (USGS) Protected Areas Database of the US (PAD-US)

LOCATION: Remote (Denver, CO preferred)

CLEARANCE: US or Green Card/Permanent Resident – Able to obtain Public Trust

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The Science Analytics and Synthesis (SAS) program supports highly complex, distributed scientific data synthesis and analysis in partnership with remote USGS scientists and collaborators. Key elements of the SAS mission include developing national data products to enable USGS science; leading strategic research and informatics partnerships; creating innovative tools and technologies for scientific discovery, science data life cycle management, and rapid response to science issues; leading advances in biodiversity science and characterizing the biogeography of the nation; and implementation of digital library research and data services. Typical support areas include land cover and species distribution modeling, systematics, high performance computing, and effectively processing, managing and providing access to distributed large scientific data (i.e. “Big Data”, down scaled model data, large regional land cover datasets, national species distribution data, species occurrence data, digital publications, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in geography, computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or a related field and 3+ years’ experience with enterprise geodatabases (e.g., ESRI Geodatabase and ArcGIS Online).
• Intermediate knowledge of Python and ArcPy.
• Familiarity with Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) and map services (e.g., ESRI, GeoServer and ArcGIS Online.
• Desired certifications: GISP, Esri Enterprise, AWS Certified Developer.
• Ability to work independently and proactively to take initiative to solve complex problems.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.

The candidate will perform services necessary for the design, development, and implementation of a spatial data aggregation solution that includes, but is not limited to Data Ingestion, Extraction, Validation, Processing, Augmentation, QA/QC, Analysis and Load. (e.g. FME and Python), map services (e.g., ESRI, GeoServer and ArcGIS Online) providing access to geospatial and attribute data, RESTful APIs and other Web Services to enable dissemination of BioScience data, including those required for integration with other systems both internal and external to the USGS, new cloud-based APIs using Amazon Web Services, database development activities utilizing a geospatially enabled database (e.g., ESRI Geodatabase and ArcGIS Online), web applications, front-end web sites and updates to existing web-based projects using technologies such as Survey123, Power Automate, Web Map Clients, and Python. The candidate will apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to contribute to the analysis and design of software solutions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $110,000.00 per year
