General Assignment Reporter
Oswego County News Now, which is powered by the newsrooms of The (Oswego) Palladium-Times and The (Fulton) Valley News, is looking for a take-charge General Assignment Reporter to help us inform our audiences of important local news. We are seeking a motivated, energetic, creative, and aggressive reporter who can think and perform in print and digital platforms.
The ideal candidate should be able to develop story ideas and gather information for articles, have exceptional writing skills, a great work ethic, a can-do attitude and take direction from our News Editor. Our reporters must be community-oriented and passionate about local news.
Day to day responsibilities will vary as a Reporter. The primary responsibilities of the role will include:
- Write and edit local stories for the newspapers print and digital platforms
- Cover community events as directed from the New Editor
- Engage with local community members
- Produce material that represents fairness and accuracy to the topic being reported
- Work closely with all members of the news team
Additionally, this person should have…
- Strong writing and copy-editing skills
- The ability to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines
- Knowledge and experience working with newsroom systems
- Two (2) years of experience as a Reporter is preferred, but not required
- Excel in storytelling across multiple platforms
- Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred
- Experience with InDesign is preferred
